Holmen needs 400 000 tonnes of recycled fibre for two paper machines operating on company’s plant near Madrid. For this purpose Holmen has taken full control of country's largest paper collection company.
Madrid paper mill was established in 1998. It was acquired by Holmen in year 2000, and is part of the Holmen Paper business area. The mill enjoys a dominant position on the Iberian market. Holmen Paper Madrid includes a newsprint paper mill and two jointly owned subsidiaries that collect waste paper. All production is based on waste paper, which is collected primarily in Spain but also in Portugal. Plant’s productive capacity is 470 000 tonnes of newsprint, magazine and lightly coated magazine paper per annum.
Holmen Paper head office is situated in Norrkoping, Sweden. The company is one of the leading manufacturers of wood-containing printing paper in Europe with paper mills in Norrkoping, Hallstavik, Vargon and Madrid. Total productive capacity amounts 1.8 million tonnes per year. Total turnover is approximately SEK 8 800 millions ($1.1 billlion).
