The Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) began a two-day boycott affecting shipments of Stora Enso products on Nov. 17, halting most of the paper maker's exports bar those from the port of Kemi, Paper Age reported. The union stressed that the boycott would not affect production at Stora Enso's mills. The AKT wants to negotiate special agreements with all subcontractors involved in stevedoring, a demand the Finnish Port Operators' Association says clashes with the sector's collective agreement. The employer side regards the boycott as illegal and has announced it intends to pursue the matter before the Labour Court. Juha Vanhainen, a country manager at Stora Enso, said the industrial action was unfortunate as the company was not a party in the dispute in any way. Mr Vanhainen added he was confident the company was able to weather the row without an impact on production by storing stock and shipping it to customers with some delays.
