BRUSSELS, Oct. 19, 2001 (paperloop.com) - Levent Kagit is fine tuning the second-hand PM 2 that is due to swing into action at its Kemalpasa mill near Izmir next month. The 36,000 tonne/yr machine was PM 4 at Nettingsdorfer's Linz plant in Austria in its former life.
The new addition will boost the Kemalpasa plant's output to 46,000 tonnes/yr. Levent Kagit currently produces 10,000 tonnes/yr of fluting and liner on its PM 1. The company said that although PM 2 can make a wide range of paper grades, the machine will initially manufacture wrapping paper. The company aims to use the additional capacity to increase its market share in Europe, as well as in Turkey.
The Turkish producer rebuilt the fourdrinier unit following its arrival at the Kemalpasa mill in July 1999. Levent Kagit increased the machine's speed and the PM's electrical systems and pope reel have been replaced.
The company brought Lamort and Metso Automation on board for the $20 million expansion scheme. Lamort won a $2.2 million contract to supply a 25,000 tonne/yr recycled fiber stock preparation system to feed PM 2. The paper machine has also been kitted out with Metso Automation's metsoDNA integrated process control software.
