Feb 24, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Turkish paper, cardboard and pasteboard production dropped by 21% year-on-year to 254,900 tonnes in 2004, data from the State Statistics Institute (DIE) showed. Production of paper, cardboard and pasteboard in Turkey in 2004 fell by 61.8% compared to 2000. Output stood at 666,600 tonnes in 2000, 484,100 tonnes in 2001, 458,500 tonnes in 2002 and 321,700 tonnes in 2003. Turkish imports of paper, cardboard and pasteboard rose by 31.2% year-on-year in 2004 to reach record-high $1.496 bln (1.13 bln euro). Imports in 2004 increased by 135.3% compared to 2001. Imports stood at $635.8 mln (480.2 mln euro) in 2001, at $831.4 mln (628 mln euro) in 2002 and $1.14 bln (861.1 mln euro) in 2003. Turkish paper, cardboard and pasteboard exports, which has been on a rise since 1999, totalled $460.2 mln (347.6 mln euro) in 2004, up 23.1% year-on-year. Exports in 2004 jumped 2.1 times compared to 1999. Exports stood at $166.4 mln (125.7 mln euro) in 2000, at $242.2 mln (182.9 mln euro) in 2001, $307.1 mln (231.9 mln euro) in 2002, $373.5 mln (282.1 mln euro) in 2003.
