UPM will permanently close its paper mill in Ettringen, Germany, on 31 December 2025, discontinuing its graphic paper production at the site. The closure will reduce the company's annual uncoated mechanical paper production capacity by 270,000 tonnes and impacts 189 employees. The decision follows the completion of an employee consultation process conducted within arbitration proceedings, according to UPM.

The company states it has agreed with employee representatives on a social plan, including market-oriented severance packages, pension-related measures, and the establishment of a transfer company. An after-care team will remain on-site post-closure to ensure safe conditions.

UPM is a global producer of renewable fibres, advanced materials, and communication papers.
