Housing starts In August in the United States lost 11.3% y-o-y to 1.28 million units, according to government data released Tuesday. Single-family housing starts in August were 941 thiousand units, 4.3% lower than in July. 

Privately‐owned housing completions in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.41 million. This is 5.3% above the revised July estimate of 1.34 million and is 3.8% above the August 2022 rate of 1.36 million. Single‐family housing completions in August were at a rate of 961 thousand; this is 6.6% below the revised July rate of 1.03 million. The August rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 433 thousand.
