U.S. international trade deficit was $89.8 billion in October 2023, up $3.0 billion from $86.8 billion in September. Exports of goods for October were $170.8 billion, $3.0 billion less than September exports. Imports of goods for October were $260.7 billion, virtually unchanged from September imports, as the U.S. Census Bureau reports.

Advance Wholesale Inventories

Wholesale inventories for October, adjusted for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were estimated at an end-of-month level of $899.4 billion, down 0.2% from September 2023, and were down 2.0% from October 2022. The August 2023 to September 2023 percentage change was revised from up 0.2% to up 0.1%.

Advance Retail Inventories

Retail inventories for October, adjusted for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were estimated at an end-of-month level of $796.6 billion, virtually unchanged from September 2023, and were up 5.4% from October 2022. The August 2023 to September 2023 percentage change was revised from up 0.9% to up 0.4%.
