U.S. printing-writing paper shipments decreased 21% in September 2023 compared to September 2022, while U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased 33% in September compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased 2% when compared to August 2023, as the American Forest & Paper Association reported.

Total U.S. purchases in August in all three major P-W grades (UFS, CFS and MECH) decreased by 29.6% when compared to the same period last year. The Mechanical category showed the greatest decrease by volume at -137.3 tons and by percentage at -49.5%. Net imports in all 3 major grades decreased in August compared to the same month last year.
