With Project “KM9,” the WEIG Group is strategically strengthening its position in the plasterboard liner market. Yaguarete Papeles (Kartotec S.A.), a subsidiary of WEIG, has acquired a modern paper machine ideally suited for producing technical papers for plasterboard and other grades.
This investment is part of a future-oriented growth strategy designed to enhance WEIG Technical Liner’s industrial capabilities. The machine was chosen for its technical suitability, alignment with regional market needs, and its role in ensuring reliable supply. Rather than replacing existing production, it enhances our capabilities by adding valuable additional capacity.
Bernd Stibi, Managing Director of Tecnokarton and WEIG Technical Liner, explains:
“With Project KM9 we are taking an important step to strengthen our presence in Latin America. The investment allows us to reliably supply our customers with high-quality plasterboard liner, while at the same time supporting sustainable growth in the region.”
The project is already underway: dismantling at the former site in Raubling, Germany, has started. The first project phase, including dismantling, documentation, and shipment to Paraguay, is expected to be completed by mid-2026. This will be followed by reconstruction and commissioning at the Villeta site in Paraguay.
The new machine is designed to run on recycled fiber, supporting WEIG’s sustainability goals by ensuring resource-efficient production. At Villeta, WEIG already produces plasterboard and testliner with one of the lowest carbon footprints worldwide—capacity that will now be expanded further.
