Wuzhou Specialty Paper has successfully started up PM 19 at its mill in China, with the paper machine becoming the first worldwide to operate with a DuoCentri NipcoFlex press that includes a center belt. The solution has moved from development to commercial operation and has already demonstrated stable production and reliable web runnability, according to the technology supplier Voith.
The press concept enables closed full-width web threading from the press directly into the drying section, eliminating the open draw at the center roll. The DuoCentri NipcoFlex press with center belt keeps the web fully supported, removing risks associated with conventional press designs, including threading instability, web breaks, nip paper jamming, premature doctor blade wear, and damage to the center roll surface.
For PM 19, the complete system package includes one SpeedSizer, two OnQuality quality control systems, a machine control system, a ProRelease Plus stabilizer, key approach flow components, and start-up clothing and fabrics. Operational experience at the mill confirms improvements in threading reliability, overall runnability, and occupational safety, while extending the lifetime of doctor blades and the center roll.
The start-up marks a milestone in the technical collaboration between the two companies, with on-site start-up support provided from approach flow to reel. The integrated approach enabled a smooth transition from commissioning to stable production.
