May 18, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. AbitibiBowater indefinitely closes its Gatineau, Quebec mill in Canada. The mill has been temporarily idled since April 15, 2010. 330 employees will be out of work, as ForestTalk reported. AbitibiBowater is working to reallocate wood chips to its remaining six Quebec mills and no sawmills are affected by the closure. The mill produced 360,000 tonnes of paper annually, including 310,000 tonnes of newsprint. The company blames its decision on market weakness and declining demand.
