May 23, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Mondi, the paper and packaging arm of global diversified miner Anglo-American Plc, plans to buy a Bulgarian paper mill, Bulgaria's anti-trust regulator said on Monday, May 22, according to SeeNews.
"The commission for protection of competition allowed the concentration of business that will emerge when Mondi Packaging Paper B.V. acquires control over the Stambolijski paper factory," the commission said in a statement.
It added that Mondi would give the Bulgarian paper mill access to its sales network and provide it with opportunities to enter new markets.
The Commission for protection of competition gave no other details. Mondi officials were not immediately available for comment.
The paper mill, located in the southern Bulgarian town of Stambolijski, is the largest producer of kraft paper (strong brown paper used for wrapping) in southeast Europe and it exports most of its production.
Mondi had sales of Euro 3.1 billion in 2005, up from Euro 3.1 billion the year before.
