Jul 11, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. In June, business in softwood lumber on the Spanish market has continued at almost the same low level as during the previous months, Euwid wood products and panels reported.
Demand for sawn timber proved to be clearly lower than usual at this time of the year. Just as during the previous months the poor volume of demand was opposed to an oversupply in sawn timber. The result was another, modest weakening of softwood lumber prices. In the beginning of the 3Q now the Spanish softwood lumber market is characterized by extremely dull business activities.
Against the background of reducing building activities, mainly in the field of residential construction, requirements for the respective sawn timber dimensions are reducing. Apparently, residential construction has been slowing down in all Spanish regions. Market insiders would expect building activities to weaken markedly again in the course of the third and the fourth quarter.
