Feb 18, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. Atlas Packaging and Viridor have announced a new three-year partnership that will see in the region of 1500 tonnes of pre-consumer cardboard waste being recycled each year.

Cardboard off-cuts, a by-product from the manufacturing process, is baled on site and collected by Viridor on a regular basis. The waste bales are then sold by Viridor as high quality recyclate that will end up being made into books, boxes or any other card products.

Jason Sharman, Managing Director at Atlas said: “70% less energy is used when making new paper and card from recycled stock than when using virgin pulp so it is great to know that we are doing what we can to support the environment. The high quality of the corrugated waste we produce also means that it is in demand in the manufacturing sector and we can get a good return on what is essentially a waste product.”

Viridor also handles Atlas’s General Waste Contract.

Viridor is the leading recycler of paper, card and confidential paper in the UK, recycling 100% of the paper and card that it receives.
