Nov 28, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Bosnia's Una-Sana canton has cancelled a deal to sell the Sana lumber mill to Montenegro-based Balkan Timber Group, due to unfulfilled contract obligation. "The buyer was obliged to pay 360 000 marka ($217 000) on the account of the cantonal privatization agency. We agreed several times to extend the deadline but the buyer again failed to fulfil its obligation," Samir Catovic, director of the Una-Sana cantonal privatisation agency, said.
He added that Balkan Timber Group did not fulfil the contract clauses for new investments and increasing staff either.
The Podgorica-based Balkan Timber Group acquired 67% state-owned capital in Sana in December. It pledged to invest 3 million marka in production in the first three years and to create 300 jobs.
The Una-Sana canton is one of the 10 cantons of the Muslim-Croat Federation, which together with the Serb Republic makes up postwar Bosnia.
The cantons enjoy a relative administrative autonomy, each having its own government, judiciary and privatization body.
