Botnia intends to build pulp-and-paper mill in Vologda region
. Finnish Botnia is examining the possibility of construction of a pulp-and-paper mill in Vologda region of Russia.
Oct 26, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Finnish Botnia examines the possibility of construction of a pulp-and-paper mill in Vologda region of Russia, it was discussed during the meeting of company’s president Erkki Varis and Vologda region governor Vyacheslav Pozgalev, according to company’s information.
The value and productive capacity of the mill are not disclosed.
This decision is in line with Botnia’s strategy in Russia of the developing activities in the forest sector in the European part of Russia. Botnia has already done basic work concerning the possibilities of developing wood procurement and industrial activities in North West Russia.
During the meeting the parts have discussed questions of Finnish investments in new pulp production. It was decided to create joint strategic committee for examination of the possibility of realization of this project in Vologda region. It was also decided to continue and further enhance cooperation in developing sustainable forestry and wood procurement in Vologda. This work will include the enhancement of forest management, forest road network development and wood harvesting operations.
Botnia is also aiming at developing cooperation with other harvesting companies in Vologda. Cooperation is in a key position in developing practical wood procurement to meet the requirements of industrial scale wood procurement.
