Jan 11, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Due to essential felling operations, Cardinham Woods (UK) will be closed to the public for two weeks in Mid February. This closure is to ensure the safety of the public, as Timberweb reported.
Over 6000 trees are being felled to provide 1600 cubic metres of timber, which is being sold to a regional timber company. The Forestry Commission produces nearly 9 million cubic metres of timber each year and is committed to providing a sustainable supply of timber in the UK. Currently in the UK over 85% of the 50 million cubic metres of timber the country needs has to be imported at a cost of GBP 8 billion ($13 billion).
Work at Cardinham will continue until April 2010. John Ebsary, Area Forester for Cornwall comments: “During this necessary work, certain areas of Cardinham Woods will not accessible to the public although most of the site will be open as normal. The team at Cardinham will do all they can to keep any disruption for visitors to an absolute minimum.”
