Nov 23, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Colombian paper company Familia S.A., one of the leading Colombian paper producers, will open a plant in the Dominican Republic, it was reported. Familia is part of a conglomerate, composed also by Colombian paper company Familia del Pacifico, Ecuadorian Tecnopapel and Peruvian Productos Sancela. Familia also sells its products at present in Puerto Rico, Chile and Venezuela. Familia is 50% owned by Colombian investors and 50% held by the Swedish pulp and paper group Svenska Cellulosa AB (SCA), one of the leading European paper producers. The start of operations in the Dominican Republic is part of the expansion plan of Familia for Latin America, which has been recently implemented. The sales of Familia stood at COP 375.59 billion ($164.77 million) from January to September 2005, up by 7.5% in comparison with the first nine months of 2004. The exports stood at $28.7 million, compared to $22.6 million. The net profit stood at COP 23.12 million ($10.14 million).
