Nov 24, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The Czech Republic's paper production increased 4.0% year-on-year to 740 000 tonnes for the first nine months of 2005.
The company's pulp output rose 2.0% to 568 000 tonnes, while paper product output climbed 20% to 387 500 tonnes for the period.
The average paper consumption in the Czech Republic, which more than doubled to 130 kg per capita in 2004 compared to 1993, might rise to 140 kg per capita in 2005, according to Milos Lesikar from the Czech Association of Pulp and Paper Industry.
Czech domestic 2004 paper and cardboard production totalled 955 000 tonnes, while the country's paper and cardboard imports for the period reached nearly one million tonnes. Some 60% of the country's annual paper and cardboard output is exported.
The Czech Republic's paper production for the entire 2005 is expected to rise by between 3.0% and 5.0% year-on-year, according to Mr. Lesikar.
The paper and pulp industry accounts for 1.67% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
