Dutch carton producer Kappa Golfkarton and the sector trade union CNV Papier en Karton reached an agreement in principle on a new collective labour contract (CAO) on May 4, 2005. The one-year CAO will be valid until April 1, 2006. As a result of the reached CAO agreement the planned strike was cancelled. Under the CAO, the some 1,300 employees of Kappa Golfkarton will receive a salary increase of 1.0 pct with a retroactive effect. CNV Papier en Karton proposed initially a salary increase of 1.25 pct but the company management did not want a salary increase of more than 0.75 pct. CNV Papier en Karton and Kappa Golfkarton reached also agreement on sick payments. Employees will receive 100 pct of their salary in the first year of illness and 80 pct in the second year. Their salary will reach 100 pct if the employees optimally work on their reintegration into the labour market. Kappa Golfkarton has branches in Eindhoven and Helmond, southern Netherlands.
