Oct 27, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. European demand for newsprint fell 11.7% (105,000 tonnes) in September compared to the year-earlier period, CEPIPRINT said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. Total European shipments loss 9.1% (91,000 tonnes), which can be almost entirely attributed to a reduction in domestic shipments with the steepest declines to the UK, Germany and France. Looking for the positives, exports of newsprint remained relatively flat, down just 1.8% (3,000 tonnes). The SC-magazine paper sector saw European demand decline 12.1% (46,000 tonnes). Fewer local deliveries coupled with a 26.3% (22,000 tonnes) drop in overseas shipments of the grade resulted in a fall of 14.7% (69,000 tonnes) in Total European shipments. Last month was also a harsh period for CMR as European demand slid 18.2% (125,000 tonnes) against the same period ast year. Total European shipments were down 17.9% (147,000 tonnes) with the biggest declines in local shipments to Germany, Italy and France, on top of a significant decline in exports to North America.
