Feb 16, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. FSC has delivered a positive approval decision for the "FSC Finland Forest Stewardship Standard V1-1”. The standard was approved on 21 January 2011 and will be effective starting from 1 May 2011, as FSC said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
The approval of the national standard is a significant step for FSC Finland and FSC certification in the country. The FSC national standards are based on the international FSC Principles and Criteria (P&C) but adapt these to national conditions by adding country-specific indicators, verifiers and guidance.
The Certification Bodies are required to inform all of their clients in Finland that they shall be assessed against the revised standard from 1 May 2011. The intervening 3 month period between the approval and implementation of the standard is in place for Certification Bodies and forest managers to adapt their systems and management practices respectively to the new standard.
