May 27, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. A fire has badly damaged Canfor Corp's plywood mill in Prince George, British Columbia, one of three big blazes to strike the small city overnight, Reuters informed.
City officials declared a state of emergency as crews battled the fires that began at Canfor's North Central plywood facility, and were apparently spread to the other sites by burning embers.
The other fires were at Interior Warehousing Ltd, which stores wood products, and at Canadian National Railway's railroad tie storage yard, according to a city spokesman.
Canfor officials were still assessing damage to the plywood plant, which employs about 350 people. Local media said the facility appeared to have been destroyed in the blaze, which produced dramatic flames and sent a plume of black smoke high into the air.
