Oct 08, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Scotch Lumber Co. of Fulton, Ala., and Gulf Lumber Co. of Mobile, Ala., have announced an agreement to merge the two companies. The new company, Scotch & Gulf Lumber, LLC, will combine Scotch's sawmill in Fulton with Gulf's sawmills, remanufacturing plant, and treating facilities in Mobile and Jackson, Ala. Sales and administration operations for the new company will continue in the Mobile offices, as Random Lengths reported. Current market and economic conditions are being assessed to determine a potential start-up date for the Fulton operation, which has been down since last April. Scotch and Gulf currently employ 296 people, and another 100 jobs will be added after the Fulton plant resumes operation.
