Dec 16, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Forestry officials with about 30 police officers raided and seized a large number of logs which had been cut down from around 30-50 big trees on top of Nang Panturat mountain which is in a reserved forest in Phuket. The seizure took place after officials flew over the hill by helicopter and spotted the deforestation. On the scene officials found old trees were cut down and turned into logs while loggers fled the scene and officials faced difficulties as it was a steep hill. If sent to market however the logs would be worth several million baht, officials said. They are being sent to be kept at the Provincial Natural Resources Office while an investigation will take place to find the illegal loggers.
