With exports of 2.5 million cubic meters, Indonesia had a 47.9% share of plywood market in Japan in 2004, the Forestry Information Center said. However, in the first eleven months of 2005, the country's exports to Japan totaled only 1.8 million cubic meters valued at $770 million or 40.6% of the Japanese market in volume.
Head of the Center Achmad Fauzi Mas'ud said Malaysia, the main rival of Indonesia in plywood market in Japan, is the second largest supplier but its exports to Japan are increasing.
