Dec 12, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The Forestry Industry Revitalization Body (BRIK) estimated that Indonesia's exports of plywood and woodworking will decline by 27% in 2005. Last year, the country's exports of plywood totaled 6.18 million cubic meters and exports of woodworking totaled 2.98 million cubic meters. In the first 10 months of this year, the country's exports of plywood totaled only 4.42 million cubic meters and exports of woodworking totaled 2.39 million cubic meters, BRIK chairman Soewarni said.
Despite the decline, earnings from exports of woodworking rose as the price of that commodity increased sharply to $520 per cubic meter from $431. The price of plywood, however, has declined slightly to $372 from $377 per cubic meter.
At current prices, the country's earnings from plywood exports this year are estimated to reach only $1.27 billion, down from $2.33 billion last year.
Earnings from woodworking exports are estimated to rise to $1.24 billion from $1.14 billion.
