Italy woodworking machinery sales up 15% year-on-year in 2006

Italian woodworking machinery sector closed 2006 with a 15% yearly rise in sales, ANSA reported according to the Association of Italian woodworking machinery manufacturers ACIMALL. The output of the wood-processing machinery increased also by 15% year-on-year in 2006, ACIMALL's deputy chairman, Paolo Griggio, said.
ACIMALL groups 223 companies, which export 82% of their production. The major market for the Italian wood-processing machinery are China, India, Turkey, Russia, Spain, France and Germany.
Griggio attended the opening of the 16th edition of the biennial woodworking machinery and technology exhibition Samulegno, running in Pordenone, northern Italy, between February 8 and 12, 2007.
The wood and furniture sector in Pordenone province, northern Italy, registered a 4.0% rise in the production and a 7.4% growth in the sales in the last quarter of 2006 compared to the corresponding period of 2005.
