Kruger to idle two mills for two weeks
Oct 03, 2007. The closures will reduce production by 40 000 tonnes.
Oct 03, 2007. /Lesprom Network/. Kruger Inc. says it will reduce production at two Quebec paper mills by shutting them down for two weeks. The downtime will affect 1 500 employees. The Trois-Rivieres mill will close October 28 to November 10, while the Brompton mill in Sherbrooke will shut from November 17 to December 1, the company said.
The closures will reduce production by 25 000 tonnes of newsprint, 6 000 tonnes of supercalendered paper and 8 000 tonnes of coated paper.
The privately held company made the decision because of the increased value of the Canadian dollar and continued increase in production costs such as labor, fiber and energy.
