Lennart Salmén has been appointed President of the IAWS (International Academy of Wood Science) for a three year period, as the Innventia AB said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. The International Academy of Wood Science is a non-profit organisation of wood scientists promoting the scientific excellence in wood science in a broad sense covering the areas of biological, chemical and physical sciences of lignified natural materials and their products as well as the scientific bases for the converting technologies to produce products thereof. The organisation has a worldwide representation by recognizing meritorious wood scientists by their election as Fellows. The organisation is also promoted by research organisations as supporting members of which Innventia is one. This year the annual meeting of IAWS is arranged in Stockholm, from August 31 to September 2, by Innventia in cooperation with the Wallenberg Wood Science Centre of KTH/Chalmers with the topic “Novel materials from wood or cellulose”.
