Mar 05, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. In response to the impact of sustained high pulp prices and the weak dollar on European markets for woodfree uncoated paper, Mondi Group announced that it will further decrease its capacity. Presenting its business results for 2007, the company announced plans to decommission its Hungarian mill at Szolnok in the 2Q 2008. The non-integrated mill, which was built in 1936, has an annual capacity of 140 thousand tonnes, employs around 275 people and last year generated an operating loss. Mondi estimates the cost of the planned closure of the site, which is subject to negotiations with the relevant unions, at around Euro 88 million.
