Jul 07, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Nemansky pulp and paper enterprise (Kaliningrad region, owned by NWTIC) launched natural gas boilers to use gas as fuel for the heating plant. Gas consumption limit – 22.7 thousand tons will be set beginning from 2005. Previously Nemansky experienced difficulties caused by the lack of gas. The drastic increase of prices for blackoil (from RUR 2000 to 5000 per ton beginning from 2005) further operation of the enterprise without cheap alternative fuel was problematic. Last week the employees of the enterprise sent an open letter to the president of the Russian Federation. The letter said that the closure of the enterprise would leave a large number of population unemployed and the rest of the citizens will be left without heating and hot water. The gasification of Kaliningrad region located in the center of Europe is estimated at 41.9%, including cities and towns – 51.9%, rural areas – 4%. Meanwhile all over Russia these average indices are 53%, 60% and 34.7% respectively. 'The gasification of the enclave is essential for the enterprises and the local population' governor V. Egorov said. After the modernization of the enterprise, Nemansky will increase tax payments to the budget, increase production output and reduce the impact on the environment. NWTIC owns Nemansky pulp and paper enterprise (Kaliningrad region), Kamennogorskaya offset paper mill (Leningrad region), Velsky WachWerk (Arkhangelsk region), sales and regional offices throughout Russia and the CIS.
