Apr 19, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Norampac Inc. announces that it has completed the acquisition of approximately 9 000 hectares of wood lots in the Kamouraska region, located in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada. This acquisition will allow Norampac to secure the supply of wood fiber for the future with respect to its Cabano containerboard mill. Having started the production of fast growing hybrid poplar ten years ago, Norampac will be able to pursue its plantation program with the additional space gained with the acquisition. All of these wood lots are already under forest management contracts and Norampac will maintain their development by working with regional organizations. This acquisition will not modify the actual wood fibre supply for the Cabano containerboard mill. Norampac owns eight containerboard mills and twenty-six corrugated products plants in the United States, Canada and France. With annual production capacity of more than 1.45 million short tons, Norampac is the largest containerboard producer in Canada and the seventh largest in North America. Norampac, which is also a major Canadian manufacturer of corrugated products, is a joint venture company owned by Domtar Inc. and Cascades Inc.
