Norwegian Kappa Rena mulls job cuts

Nov 24, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Norwegian paper and cardboard packaging producer Kappa Rena AS considers reducing its staff, the company said. Kappa Rena employs between 35 and 40, of whom 28 in the production unit. Over the past two years the company has temporarily dismissed staff. Managing director Trygve Stolan and employees' representative Bjorn Magnar Nordholm confirmed that the company has initiated a cost-cutting drive without providing further details.
Kappa Rena turnover fell to NOK 82.9 million ($12.4 million) in 2004 from NOK 98.9 million ($14.8 million) in 2003. The company posted an operating loss of NOK 3.9 million ($585,000) and a pre-tax loss of NOK 4.6 million ($691,000) for 2004.
The company produces mainly packaging in solid board for the fishing industry.
Kappa Rena is part of Dutch sector company Kappa Packaging Group BV, the second largest producer of fibre-based packaging in Europe. Kappa Rena is based in Rena, 160 km north of Oslo.
