A German paper company, Papierfabrik August Koehler AG, may buy and refurbish the closed NewPage Corp. paper mill in Kimberly, Wisconsin, informed Lesprom Network according to the Wisconsin Ag Connection. Papierfabrik had planned to build a new mill before realizing that it could buy a shuttered U.S. mill to provide increased capacity for thermal paper. If the company decides to buy an existing mill, production could begin as soon as 2010, once the company modernizes the production and coating unit. The company said it would make a decision sometime in the next few months.
