The company said that despite extensive restructuring measures and a new strategic focus of its product portfolio it was unable to absorb the dramatic increase in energy and raw material costs during the past few years. In addition, prices for coated woodfree papers have been falling. The company's provisional admistrator Jobst Wellensiek said that business would continue as normal within a few days. Scheufelen has an output capacity of about 290 thousand tpy of woodfree coated paper for high-quality printed material.
