The Plum Creek Foundation announced on Wednesday that it will donate $100,000 to support relief efforts in the southeast United States in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Company representatives are working with community leaders to identify how best to distribute the donations to benefit those impacted in communities where Plum Creek employees live and work. The Foundation will also match employee contributions made to agencies involved in the relief effort.
"Our hearts go out to the many people who have been affected by this tragic event," said Rick Holley, president and chief executive officer. "We are pleased to help bring much needed aid to those whose lives were changed so quickly and dramatically by this disaster and to support them as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives."
These donations are in line with the Plum Creek Foundation's tradition of providing philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare and quality of life in the communities where the company operates. Plum Creek owns and manages nearly 1.4 million acres of timberlands in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Plum Creek is one of the largest private timberland owners in the nation, with approximately 8 million acres of timberlands in major timber producing regions of the United States and 10 wood products manufacturing facilities in the Northwest.
