Portucel-Empresa de Pasta e Papel, Portugal's leading pulp and paper manufacturing company, said it was in talks with the government's Invest in Portugal Agency (API) on a number of possible investment projects. Portucel did not specify which projects. In a statement to the Securities Commission (CMVM), the company said it did not know how long the talks would take and whether they would result in anything concrete. The statement was issued after financial daily Diario Economico reported Portucel was close to sealing the funding of Euro 500 million for a new paper project. The CMVM temporarily suspended trading in Portucel's stock after it rose 6.2% in the wake of the report.
