Mar 24, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. The Finnish white-collar workers' union Pro has issued a strike warning. The strike would affect salaried employees at paper mills in Finland belonging to UPM on 6-20 April. The strike will not have any immediate impact on production activities, as the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF) said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
"Threatening to strike doesn't help the cause of these employees. However, the FFIF is prepared to continue its discussions with Pro,” says FFIF Deputy Director General Jari Forss.
In the last few weeks, the FFIF and Pro have been engaged in negotiations concerning pay and terms of employment for the second year of the existing collective labour agreement.
The parties have, however, failed to reach an accord and Pro has terminated the collective labour agreement in force at the moment.
The collective agreement covers about 3,000 salaried employees in the paper industry.
