Oct 26, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. Rengo Co., Ltd. has won a 3Rs Promotion Council President’s Prize at the FY2012 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) promotion merit awards hosted by the 3Rs Promotion Council. The prize was awarded for high evaluations of the efforts by Rengo’s Kanazu mill to create lightweight corrugated board through the development of lightweight Less Caliper & Carbon (LCC) containerboard, as well as activities related to the effective utilization of recovered paper resources, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network. The goal of the 3Rs Promotion Council is to promote recycling through cooperation with the government, consumers, industry and others. It was founded in 2001 as the Recycling Promotion Council and was renamed the 3Rs Promotion Council in 2002 with the goal of building a recycling-oriented society through the “3 Rs”—reduce, reuse, and recycle. The 3Rs promotion merit awards are conducted each year as one aspect of the Council’s public awareness and promotion activities. LCC containerboard was first developed by Rengo’s Kanazu mill. It is a lightweight, high performance containerboard that also helps to effectively utilize valuable recovered paper resources and reduce environmental impact. This is Rengo’s second award, after the 3Rs Promotion Council President’s Prize received in fiscal 2009 for its promotion of reduction of waste generation through lighter corrugated board, as well as recycling and resources conservation by means of an improved usage rate of recovered paper.
