Jun 21, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Russia should process its own timber itself, at least the ‘euroboard’, chairman of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov said at an economic forum. According to the chairman, major exports of raw materials does not bring serious profits, it causes financial loss instead. On the Russian-Chinese border there’re hundreds of sawmills currently under construction – on the Chinese side of the border. Russia should process its own timber itself, at least produce the so called ‘euroboard’ he said. ‘We should preserve and expand our presence on the international markets. The most promising sectors are not only raw materials – oil, gas and timber -, but the aircraft and space industry, military industry, nuclear power, chemical industry. If these sectors go on losing their positions on the world markets, we well fail the goal to double the GDP and will put our sovereignity under threat’ he added. ‘State support is essential for these sectors.’
