In 2002 the enterprise spent RUR 557,6 million on the environment protection program. The significant difference in expense on environment protection measures is due to the fact that environment protection was part of the modernization measures in 2002.
The enterprise carried out the following procedures in accordance with the program: biological water purification facilities installation, the reconstruction of the sedimentation tanks and the change of the bars on the mechanical purification facilities. The enterprise also adjusted lime regeneration furnaces for cardboard and pulp production, a new dump site for industrial waste was settled.
In 2003 while production growth reached 5,5% water consumption from the North Dvina increased 2,4%. Dangerous substances dumping reduced 11,1%, air emissions declined 4,8%.
Arkhangelsky pulp and paper mill is one of the leading timber-chemical enterprises in Russia and Europe. The enterprise is specialized in cardboard, cardboard transportation tare, commercial pulp, hardboard, paper and bleached paper goods production. Arkhangelsky accounts for 35% of Russian tare cardboard market.
The enterprise’s major shareholders are: Moscow Central Depositary (nominal shareholder, 27,3%), Reifeisen bank Austria (nominal shareholder, 20,3%), Conrad Jacobson (Germany, 19,5%), Wilfried Heinzel (Germany, 12,5% , Dollard Holding (the Netherlands, 12,5%).
