Jun 03, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Södra Timber is to acquire Rörvik Timber’s pressure treatment plant in Åstorp with ten employees, as the company informed Lesprom Network. The company currently has an annual production permit for 150,000 cubic metres of pressure-treated timber.
“The acquisition will enable us to develop our sawmill in Traryd and increase production for the Danish market. We will also pressure-treat timber from other Södra sawmills at the Åstorp plant,” said Peter Nilsson, president of Södra Timber.
The takeover will take place on 1 July. The acquired operation will become a profit centre within Södra Timber under the name Södra Timber Åstorp.
In addition, Södra’s business area for interior products, Gapro, is acquiring BJU in Rottne from Rörvik Timber. BJU is one of Sweden’s leading producers of glued-joint boards for furniture and the building trade. The company’s revenue last year was SEK 50 million and it has 24 employees.
“BJU in Rottne is currently a supplier to Gapro and we see major benefits and synergies in an ongoing development of the existing Gapro range as well as improving distribution efficiency,” said Håkan Svensson, president of Gapro.
The takeover took place on 1 June and the acquired company will change its name to Gapro in the fourth quarter of 2009.
