Aug 12, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. SCA Tissue said that it plans to announce a $20 million expansion of its South Glens Falls plant, Post-Star reported. The expansion is not intended to immediately create new jobs, said Stefanie Zakowicz, spokeswoman for the Empire State Development Corp.
The money will be used to purchase new machinery and construct a new building, she said. The development corporation contributed a $500,000 grant to help offset the cost of the project. The expansion will result in the retention of 294 jobs, Zakowicz said.
"It’s going to help the company be healthier and more competitive," she said. "Down the road, it could lead to more jobs."
The company currently employs 320 hourly and salaried workers at the plant, which processes recycled paper and turns it into such products as bath tissue and paper towels.
