Jun 15, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Specialized Industries Co (Jordan), or SPIC, inaugurated on Monday a new $40 million non-woven fabric plant in Thuheibeih. The south Amman plant is an additional factory as SPIC operates a similar facility in Sahab which was established in 1988 by the mother company Nuqul Group. SPIC, the first manufacturer of the raw material used for diapers and adult incontinent products, is a member of the Nuqul Group which owns 30 companies across the Middle East and the United States. "Built on 5.6 million square meters of land, the new plant has a total area of 22 000 square meters which we will expand into an industrial complex for our operations and equipment", said SPIC's general manager Hatem Otoum. According to a company statement, the current output of the Sahab enterprise is around 7 500 tonnes annually, 15% of which is sold in the local market and 85% exported to Middle Eastern, Asian and European countries. "With the new factory, our exports will increase by 50%, in addition to providing 150 new jobs," Mr. Otoom told journalists during a news conference. Nuqul Group chairman Elia Nuqul remarked that the new plant was set up in an isolated area with no power or water supplies. "We've built up the infrastructure for the area and the road that leads to the factory can also benefit other companies wishing to invest in the area in addition to those who live there," said Nuqul. Nuqul Group's exports from its Jordan factories amount to $65 million a year, the chairman indicated. Specialized Industries Co (SPIC) is the successor of Advanced Industries Co. which was established in 1988 as the first producer of nonwoven fabric in the Middle East. In August 2005 the company went through major transformation in technology and facilities to become one of the most advanced non-wovens producers specialized in producing the cover stock for baby diapers, feminine sanitary napkins, adult briefs, as well as various medical applications. SPIC is a key player in the non-wovens industry in the Middle East and is committed to providing the best available products and services. The factory is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery utilizing spun bond and melt blown technology, and is supported by an advanced laboratory to ensure consistent quality. SPIC exports most of its production to converters of baby diapers and feminine sanitary napkins in the Middle East.
