Oct 31, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. Setra inaugurated new trimmer at Skinnskatteberg sawmill in Sweden. The total investment amounted to SEK 60 million ($9 million) and will improve both efficiency and production quality, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
“This is an important milestone for the Skinnskatteberg sawmill,” says Johan Padel, Setra’s President and CEO at the official inauguration. “When the business climate turns around we will be ready to meet future demands in terms of both efficiency and quality.”
The new trimmer, which replaces the earlier one from the 1980s, is part of a strategic focus on Setra Skinnskatteberg. The SEK 60 million ($9 million) investment is expected to contribute to a total increase in production capacity of almost 40%.
The equipment, supplied by Renholmen, has advanced technology including FinScan’s camera sorting and the market’s fastest stacker, known as a Triple Stacker. The installation was started in January this year and following assembly in two phases the new trimmer is now ready to meet future needs.
“The more efficient, modernised trimmer means that production can now be carried out in two shifts instead of the previous three,” says Hans Liljestrom, Manager of Setra Skinnskatteberg.
“The new sorting line will be more consistent and accurate, which will result in us obtaining better products from the log.”
Setra Skinnskatteberg is a pure-play redwood sawmill and has 65 employees. Annual production volume totals approximately 230,000 cubic metres. Important markets for the sawmill’s products include Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Sweden.
