Feb 24, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Sierra Pacific Industries plans to reopen its small-log sawmill in Quincy, Calif., in early May. The company said that recent improvement in the lumber market, should it hold, was a primary driver behind the decision to reopen the plant, as Random Lengths reported. Further, a recent court decision resulted in a moderate increase in the availability of small logs from national forests in the region. The Quincy mill was closed in May 2009 due to weak markets and a lack of timber to run the mill. A reduction in the availability of large-diameter logs will force the company to scale back its large-log mill in Quincy from two shifts to one in May.
