Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, announced appointments in its global consumer packaging manufacturing operations, according to Charles Sullivan, executive vice president. Alan Hutchins has been appointed to the new position of division vice president, global operations - consumer packaging. Mr. Hutchins will have responsibility for Sonoco's global consumer packaging manufacturing operations including interfacing with its newly acquired Matrix Packaging division. He will also be responsible for global productivity, environmental affairs and safety for all consumer packaging businesses. Mr. Hutchins has worked in various capacities at Sonoco for 20 years, most recently as vice president, operations - rigid paper and plastics - North America. Mr. Hutchins reports to Mr. Sullivan. Jim Lassiter has joined Sonoco as director of manufacturing, rigid paper and plastics - North America. Mr. Lassiter, a former Sonoco employee, first started with the company in 1987. He has served in various manufacturing positions with the high density film products and packaging services divisions. Jim's most recent position with Sonoco was director of manufacturing, high density film products. That business was purchased by Hilex Poly in December 2003. "As we work to solidify our new relationship with Matrix Packaging in a way that will maximize growth and allow us to share resources effectively, we need people with unique talents and skills," Mr. Sullivan said. "These staff changes certainly will help us meet that need."
