Sweco has been awarded an extensive assignment as part of pulp and paper producer Metsä Group’s major investment in Äänekoski, Finland. Under the assignment, Sweco’s industry specialists and structural engineers will design and plan a new production plant for bioproducts and bioenergy. The key role played by Sweco to date includes calculating the cost and assessing the environmental impact of the project.

Apr 22, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. Sweco has been awarded an extensive assignment as part of pulp and paper
producer Metsä Group’s major investment in Äänekoski, Finland. The end result
will be the most efficient and modern bioproduct mill in the world. The value
of the assignment corresponds to one year’s work for approximately 200 people, as
the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
Under the assignment, Sweco’s industry specialists and structural
engineers will design and plan a new production plant for bioproducts and
bioenergy. The key role played by Sweco to date includes calculating the cost
and assessing the environmental impact of the project.
“Sweco is involved here in creating next generation bioproducts and bioenergy,
with a clear focus on synergies and resource efficiency. The end result will be
the most efficient and modern bioproduct mill in the world,” says Markku Varis,
CEO of Sweco Finland.
Sweco’s work on the assignment will begin immediately and continue
through late 2017. The plant is scheduled
to begin operations in autumn 2017.
