Tembec reports 4Q net loss of $17 million
Nov 19, 2009. Tembec has reported a net loss of $17 million or $0.17 per share of its last quarter, compared to a net loss of $4 million or $0.04 per share in the September 2008 quarter.
Nov 19, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Forest products company Tembec Inc. reported a 4Q net loss of $17 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $4 million, or four cents a share, a year earlier.
The Montreal-based company said consolidated sales fell 28% to $451 million in the quarter from $629 million in the same period a year earlier, as Montreal Gazette reported.
For the full year, the company lost $214 million, or $2.14 a share, on sales of $1.8 billion - a decrease of 25% from 2008.
Tembec said the results for the latest quarter were an improvement over the previous one, but still ''relatively poor,'' affected by a combination of a higher Canadian dollar, deteriorating newsprint market and weak lumber demand.
Even with the economy beginning to rebound, ''the magnitude of the decline experienced earlier in the year will require several more quarters before we see a more robust economic recovery,'' the company said in a statement.
